Monthly Match - April

WELL, HEY HOWDY THERE BUCKAROOS! This here’s yer ole pard, Doc Silverhawks, with a reporting of the goins on with the High Desert Cowboys fer the month of April.

Well, as fate would have it, we did much more than just have our regular monthly match. We had decided, clear back in February, that our Easter Sunday Match would also be our annual Barbecue and Auction to raise money fer the SASS Scholarship Foundation. Knowing that, no less than 14 shooters turned out to enjoy a beautiful, but breezy morning of Cowboy Action and Friendship. We shot a shorter than usual match, with only three stages, so that we could get the steel wrangled and our behinds off of the range before noon. Once we had everything picked up and put away, we headed down into the valley, to Doc Silverhawks Ranch, for some great food and good fun. A total of 25 folks showed up, all in cowboy attire, to enjoy a fine but windy afternoon of food, drink, and good fun. Everybody was so gracious to bring their favorite dishes and some fine items for the auction. Several, Jim Sheila, Southworth, Jady Darlin, and more, really pitched in to help with the cooking and prepparin of all of that fine food so that the rest of us folks could really get ourselves set up for a hum dinger of an auction. We had some great items this year as every person there dug deep to bring awesome items of interest. Home baked cookies and pies, home décor, reloading supplies and equipment, books, burbon, and much more were all there to pique a body’s interest and help each of us part with some of our hard earned dollars. The SASS Scholarship is a worthy cause that the High Desert Cowboys have supported fer years. We’ve have even had a scholarship recipient in our group. That was none other than our own Dynamite Desperado who’s scholarship payed fer his books and such fer the first two years of his learnin. We have always strived to raise $1000 each year fer this endeavor and sometimes we didn’t make it, but this year, we blew the doors clean off the barn with a new record of $1806 raised. I really aint got the words to express my gratitude to all of the High Desert Cowboys. Their devotion, enthusiasm, and dedication to the spirit of the Cowboy Way has really touched my heart and I can’t thank you enough fer that.

So, ifen yer interested in Cowboy Action or ifen you just wanna come up and watch, well, you’d be more than welcome. So, until next time, be sure to ride tall, shoot straight, and speak the truth.

All My Very Best
